Patio provides a space to sit, eat or read. It allows you to be in the garden when it’s too soggy underfoot to want to head into the bushes. And it is a breather between house and garden .A small patio that was fabulous for summer breakfasts. By the time I got home from work, however, the sun had gone and the space felt
unappealing. There was no point enlarging the patio there – far better to make another space at the end of the garden to catch the evening rays.

Live in a condo or apartment with little gardening space. Is your sun-space limited. Because most patios, large or small, are made of concrete, brick or stone floors, container gardening provides interesting and novel ways to decorate your patio. Using planter boxes provides much needed drainage for your plants. The boxes should be at least 18 inches deep and can be built with wood specifically treated for outdoor use or cedar wood. Line inside of box with black plastic. The plastic will prevent chemicals in the treated wood from seeping into the soil.
